Second Hand Daily Exchange

2006

A playful yet contemplative installation, Jonathan Monk's *Second Hand Daily Exchange* assembles six discrete components — painted wooden plinths, mirror, Plexiglas, cloth, and paper and oil paint on wax — into a fragmented meditation on exchange, value, and the passage of time. The varied materials suggest the accumulated residue of everyday transactions, each element carrying its own physical history and weight. Together, the parts propose a quiet dialogue between surface and reflection, the handmade and the manufactured, the permanent and the ephemeral.
