William Nelson Copley (1919–1996), known as CPLY, was an American self-taught artist whose work blended Surrealism with wit, eroticism, and pop sensibility. His paintings, often featuring cartoonish figures and bawdy humor, explored desire, sexuality, and the absurdity of American culture. Copley was also a significant collector and gallerist who championed Surrealist artists including René Magritte and Man Ray, profoundly influencing postwar American art.
