Houshiary creates abstract paintings, sculptures, and architectural installations that explore spiritual and metaphysical themes, often incorporating Islamic calligraphy and breath as motifs. Her work includes the east window of St Martin-in-the-Fields church in London and sculptures held by the Guggenheim, Tate, and British Museum. She was shortlisted for the Turner Prize in 1994 and is known for her meditative, layered canvases.
