Nuvolo, born Giorgio Ascani in 1926 in Città di Castello, Italy, was a pioneering Italian artist associated with the Arte Nucleare movement and later with innovative experimentation in materials and texture. Working closely with Enrico Baj and other avant-garde figures, he developed a distinctive practice involving the imprinting of everyday objects and industrial materials onto canvas, creating richly textured surfaces that blurred boundaries between painting and object. His work is celebrated for its tactile quality and conceptual engagement with mass production, consumerism, and the materiality of postwar life.
