Liu Kang (1911–2004) was a pioneering Singaporean painter of Chinese origin whose work synthesized Western modernism with Asian aesthetics, particularly drawing on Post-Impressionist and Fauve influences. He was a central figure in the Nanyang Style, a distinctive artistic movement that sought to merge Chinese ink painting traditions with Western techniques and the vibrant imagery of Southeast Asia. His colorful depictions of Balinese life, local Singaporean scenes, and figure studies earned him the title 'Father of Singapore Art.'
