Li Shan (born 1942) is a pioneering Chinese contemporary artist based in Shanghai, widely recognized as one of the founders of China's Political Pop movement in the early 1990s. His work provocatively blends Maoist iconography with Western pop art influences, particularly referencing Andy Warhol, to critique political ideology and consumer culture through bold, graphic imagery. In later decades, he shifted toward bioart and genetic experimentation, exploring the intersection of life sciences and aesthetics in a body of work he calls 'Bionart.'
