Jana Sterbak

Jana Sterbak is a Czech-Canadian conceptual artist born in Prague in 1955, known for her provocative and often visceral explorations of the body, identity, desire, and mortality. She gained international recognition with works such as 'Vanitas: Flesh Dress for an Albino Anorexic' (1987), a garment made from raw flank steak that challenged notions of beauty, decay, and feminism. Her multidisciplinary practice spans sculpture, installation, performance, photography, and video, positioning her as a significant figure in contemporary conceptual art.
