Jacques Majorelle (1886, 1962) was a French Orientalist painter who spent much of his life in Marrakech, Morocco, where he became captivated by the landscapes, architecture, and people of North Africa. He is renowned for his bold, vivid canvases depicting Moroccan scenes as well as for creating the legendary Majorelle Garden, which inspired the iconic cobalt blue hue now known as 'Bleu Majorelle.' His works regularly appear at auction, particularly at Artcurial and other European houses, where they command significant prices among collectors of Orientalist art.
