Inji Efflatoun

Inji Efflatoun was a painter and political activist whose surrealist-influenced works depicted working-class Egyptian women and peasant life. Imprisoned for her communist activism, she continued painting in prison, creating powerful works about captivity and resistance. Her paintings are held in collections including the Barjeel Art Foundation and represent a crucial intersection of feminist and leftist Arab modernism.
