Herman van Swanevelt was a Dutch Baroque painter and etcher, renowned for his Italianate landscape paintings. He spent much of his career in Rome, where he became associated with Claude Lorrain and developed a poetic, light-filled approach to pastoral landscapes. His work was highly influential in spreading the Italianate landscape style across Europe.
