Félix Teynard (1817, 1892) was a French civil engineer and amateur photographer whose landmark photographic survey of Egypt and Nubia stands as one of the most significant early achievements in travel photography. In the early 1850s, Teynard undertook an extensive journey through Egypt and Nubia, producing large-format calotype paper negatives of ancient monuments, temples, and landscapes along the Nile. His work demonstrated a remarkable sensitivity to light, texture, and architectural form, capturing the grandeur of sites such as Karnak, Luxor, Philae, and Abu Simbel with a combination of scientific precision and aesthetic refinement uncommon for the period.
