Evelyn Hofer (1922–2009) was a German-born photographer celebrated for her meticulously composed, large-format color photographs documenting cities and their inhabitants. Working primarily in the 1960s and 1970s, she produced landmark portrait and travel books capturing cities such as London, Dublin, Washington D.C., and New York with an extraordinary stillness and psychological depth. Despite being somewhat overlooked during her lifetime, she has been recognized posthumously as a pioneering figure in color photography and photojournalism.
