Eglon Hendrik van der Neer was a Dutch Golden Age painter renowned for his finely detailed depictions of elegant figures, historical scenes, and portraits. He was the son of landscape painter Aert van der Neer and developed a refined style influenced by Gerard ter Borch and Frans van Mieris. Later in his career he also turned to landscape painting, and his meticulous technique earned him considerable prestige in European court circles.
