Dame Lucie Rie was an Austrian-British studio potter widely regarded as one of the most important ceramicists of the 20th century, celebrated for her elegant, finely crafted stoneware and porcelain vessels. Born in Vienna in 1902, she fled Nazi-occupied Austria in 1938 and settled in London, where she developed a distinctive aesthetic blending modernist sensibility with classical form. Her works, characterized by thin walls, subtle glazes, and refined proportions, have achieved significant prices at major auction houses including Christie's, Sotheby's, and Bonhams.
