Consuelo Kanaga

Consuelo Kanaga (1894–1978) was an American photographer celebrated for her deeply humanistic portraits, particularly of African American subjects, which she captured with striking intimacy and dignity at a time when such representation was rare in mainstream photography. Influenced by the Photo League and social documentary traditions, her work combined aesthetic sophistication with a strong commitment to social justice.
