Chaim Gross (1904, 1991) was an American sculptor celebrated for his dynamic, rhythmic figures carved from exotic woods and cast in bronze, often depicting acrobats, circus performers, and mothers with children. Born in Austria-Hungary (present-day Ukraine), he immigrated to the United States in 1921 and became a prominent figure in 20th-century American sculpture. He was also a prolific draughtsman and printmaker, and his work is held in major museum collections including the Whitney Museum and the Smithsonian.
