Oswaldo Vigas (1926, 2014) was a pioneering Venezuelan modernist painter, sculptor, and printmaker celebrated for his vibrant integration of pre-Columbian iconography with European abstraction. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and became one of Latin America's most internationally recognized artists, exhibiting alongside figures such as Picasso and Miró. His iconic 'Brujas' (Witches) series became a defining motif of his career, blending mythological symbolism with bold color and gestural form.
