Patrick Procktor was a prominent British figurative painter and printmaker associated with the vibrant London art scene of the 1960s and 1970s, known for his luminous watercolors, etchings, and oils depicting friends, interiors, and exotic landscapes encountered during travels to Venice, China, and Central Asia. He became a celebrated figure in bohemian Soho circles, counting David Hockney among his close friends, and his sensuous, fluid style bridged Pop Art sensibilities with a more classical decorative tradition. His works are held in major British collections including the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Arts Council Collection, and he was the subject of a significant retrospective at the Manchester City Art Gallery in 2000.
