h.e.k. 04
2000
Thomas Ruff's *h.e.k. 04* (2000) is a striking example of the German photographer's ongoing investigation into the nature of images and the systems through which they are produced and consumed. Part of a series derived from electron microscope imagery, the work transforms microscopic biological or material structures into large-scale, visually arresting compositions that hover between the scientific and the aesthetic. Numbered 2/5 and inscribed in pencil on the reverse of the mount, the piece reflects Ruff's meticulous approach to edition and authenticity within his conceptually rigorous practice.
