"ADX" by Jesse Krimes is a series of drawings created using materials smuggled into and out of ADX Florence, a supermaximum security federal prison, resulting in works that directly incorporate contraband and challenge conventional notions of artistic practice and institutional boundaries. The project documents Krimes' correspondence and artistic collaboration with an incarcerated individual, transforming the restrictive environment of the prison into a site of creative resistance. By utilizing prohibited materials within the carceral system, Krimes' work critiques mass incarceration while interrogating the role of the artist as both insider and outsider to systems of power.
