Yun Hyong-keun (1928, 2007) was a pioneering South Korean abstract painter celebrated for his deeply meditative works characterized by dark, earthy tones of umber and ultramarine applied to raw linen or cotton canvas. His minimalist compositions, influenced by both Western abstraction and Eastern philosophy, earned him international recognition through exhibitions at major institutions including the Venice Biennale. He is widely regarded as one of the most important figures in Korean Dansaekhwa (monochrome painting) movement.
