William Bell was an English painter who specialised in portraiture, having trained as a prize-winning student at the Royal Academy of Arts under the influence of Sir Joshua Reynolds. He achieved considerable eminence in the North East of England, where he became best known for his portraits of Sir John Delaval and his family, now held by the National Trust at Seaton Delaval Hall, Northumberland. His portrait of Robert Harrison (1715–1802) is held in the collection of the National Portrait Gallery, London.
