Tom Phillips CBE RA (born 1937) is a British artist, writer, and composer renowned for his extraordinarily diverse practice encompassing painting, printmaking, opera, and literary art. He is best known for 'A Humument', an ongoing altered book project begun in 1966 in which he painted over pages of W.H. Mallock's Victorian novel 'A Human Document', creating new texts and imagery. His work is held in major collections including the National Portrait Gallery and Tate, and he is celebrated for blending visual art with language, music, and cultural history.
