Thomas Joshua Cooper is an American-born photographer based in Glasgow, Scotland, known for his large-scale, long-exposure black-and-white photographs of remote landscapes and extreme geographical points. His work, often produced using a 19th-century field camera and a single exposure, explores the boundaries of oceans, rivers, and continents with a meditative and elemental quality. Cooper has been a highly influential figure in British photography, having founded and chaired the Photography Department at the Glasgow School of Art.
