Peter Howson

Peter Howson is a Scottish figurative painter known for his powerful, expressionistic depictions of working-class men, urban struggle, and human suffering. His work is characterised by muscular, distorted figures rendered with raw intensity, drawing on themes of masculinity, religion, war, and social marginalization. He gained international recognition as the official British war artist in Bosnia in 1993, producing controversial and harrowing works documenting the conflict.
