Lee Man Fong (1913, 1988) was a Chinese-Indonesian painter celebrated for his masterful synthesis of traditional Chinese ink painting techniques with Western oil painting methods, creating a distinctive style that captured the grace and beauty of Balinese life, wildlife, and the human figure. Born in Guangdong, China, he spent much of his career in Indonesia, where he became the official court painter to President Sukarno and contributed significantly to the development of modern Southeast Asian art. His works are highly prized across the region and command exceptional prices at major international auction houses.
