Juan Melé (1923, 2012) was an Argentine abstract artist and a founding member of the Madí movement, a pioneering avant-garde group established in Buenos Aires in 1946 that explored geometric abstraction, irregular shaped canvases, and the integration of art and space. His work is characterized by bold geometric forms, vibrant color, and shaped or 'frame-coplanar' canvases that challenged traditional rectangular picture planes. Melé is considered a significant figure in Latin American Concrete and Madí art, contributing to the international dissemination of these movements.
