John Bagnold Burgess (1830–1897) was a British painter celebrated for his vivid Orientalist scenes depicting life in Spain and North Africa, particularly Andalusia. He studied at the Royal Academy Schools and became renowned for his richly detailed portrayals of Spanish festivals, bullfights, and genre scenes. Burgess was elected a full member of the Royal Academy in 1888 and exhibited prolifically throughout his career.
