Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot (1796–1875) was a French landscape painter and printmaker whose lyrical, atmospheric works bridged the Neoclassical tradition and the emerging Impressionist movement. Renowned for his silvery, hazy depictions of forests, rivers, and pastoral scenes, he developed a distinctive style characterized by soft tonal gradations and poetic light effects. One of the most influential artists of the 19th century, Corot profoundly shaped the Barbizon School and later generations of painters, including the Impressionists.
