Iwao Yamawaki (1898–1987) was a pioneering Japanese photographer and designer who studied at the Bauhaus in Dessau, Germany, becoming one of the few Japanese students to attend the legendary school. His photographic work is characterized by bold Constructivist compositions, dynamic montage techniques, and a modernist aesthetic that blended European avant-garde sensibilities with Japanese visual culture. Yamawaki played a significant role in introducing Bauhaus principles to Japan, influencing the development of modern design and photography in the country during the mid-20th century.
