Irma Stern

Irma Stern (1894, 1966) was a pioneering South African expressionist painter celebrated for her vibrant, boldly coloured portrayals of African subjects, flora, and figures. Trained in Germany under Max Pechstein and other Expressionist masters, she returned to South Africa and developed a distinctive style that fused European modernism with an intense engagement with African cultures.
