Gottfried Helnwein is an Austrian-Irish multidisciplinary artist known for his hyper-realistic, often disturbing imagery that confronts themes of violence, trauma, innocence, and the darker aspects of human history and culture. Working across painting, photography, installation, and performance, he frequently depicts wounded or vulnerable children juxtaposed with pop culture iconography, drawing on influences from Francis Bacon, Edward Hopper, and the German Neue Sachlichkeit movement. His work has been exhibited internationally and he has collaborated with figures such as Marilyn Manson and Rolling Stones, cementing his reputation as one of the most provocative and technically masterful artists of his generation.
