Giacomo Guardi (1764, 1835) was a Venetian painter and the son of the renowned Francesco Guardi, from whom he inherited a talent for vedute and capricci in the grand tradition of the Venetian school. He continued his father's style of depicting Venetian lagoon scenes, gondolas, and architectural fantasies, though his work is generally considered less refined and more formulaic than that of his celebrated father. His paintings frequently appear at auction as charming examples of late 18th- and early 19th-century Venetian decorative art.
