George William Russell (1867, 1935), known by the pseudonym AE, was an Irish painter, poet, mystic, and nationalist who became a central figure in the Irish Literary Revival. His paintings, often depicting luminous landscapes and mystical figures drawn from Celtic mythology and Theosophical visions, are characterised by a dreamlike, ethereal quality. Russell was a close associate of W.B. Yeats and played a significant role in Irish cultural and intellectual life in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
