Abdallah Benanteur (1931, 2017) was an Algerian painter and printmaker whose work synthesized North African cultural heritage with European modernism, particularly drawing on the traditions of Arabic calligraphy and Islamic art. He spent much of his career in France, where he became associated with lyrical abstraction and created richly textured works infused with earthy tones, gestural marks, and poetic sensibility. Benanteur is regarded as one of the most significant Algerian artists of the twentieth century, celebrated for bridging Eastern and Western artistic traditions.
