Žilvinas Kempinas is a Lithuanian-born, New York-based artist known for his large-scale installations that use magnetic videotape as a primary material, transforming the obsolete medium into dynamic sculptures that respond to air currents and light. His work explores themes of time, movement, and perception, creating immersive environments where the tape forms geometric patterns, columns, and undulating fields that blur the boundary between sculpture and drawing in space. He represented Lithuania at the 53rd Venice Biennale in 2009, gaining international recognition for his ethereal and kinetic installations.
