William Zorach

William Zorach (1887–1966) was a Lithuanian-born American modernist artist who began his career as a painter before becoming one of the foremost sculptors in the United States. He is best known for his direct carving technique in stone and wood, creating monumental figurative works that blend modernist simplification with a sense of primal human form. His work played a pivotal role in reviving the tradition of direct carving in American sculpture during the early twentieth century.
