Willem Gerard Hofker

Willem Gerard Hofker (1902–1981) was a Dutch painter celebrated for his exquisite portrayals of Balinese life, culture, and people, particularly women in traditional dress and ceremonial settings. He lived in Bali from 1938 to 1946, a period that profoundly shaped his artistic identity and produced his most iconic works. His meticulous technique, combining drawing and painting with exceptional sensitivity to light and texture, earned him recognition as one of the foremost Western interpreters of Balinese culture.
