Susan Hiller (1940–2019) was an American-born, British-based conceptual artist whose wide-ranging practice encompassed installation, video, photography, text, and sound. Drawing on psychoanalysis, popular culture, and the paranormal, she investigated the boundaries between the rational and the unconscious, the collective and the personal. A pioneering figure in British contemporary art, Hiller is celebrated for works such as 'Witness' and 'The J. Street Project,' which explore themes of memory, language, and repressed cultural experience.
