Robert Bechtle was a photorealist painter who depicted suburban American life through paintings of station wagons, tract houses, and residential streets bathed in California sunlight. Works like "'61 Pontiac" and "Potrero Hill" combined photographic accuracy with carefully composed mundane scenes. His paintings are in major collections including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum.
