Phillip Lloyd Powell (1919, 2008) was an American studio furniture maker and craftsman celebrated for his highly sculptural, hand-carved wooden furniture that blended organic forms with abstract expressionist sensibilities. Based in New Hope, Pennsylvania, he worked closely with fellow craftsman Paul Evans and became a central figure in the American studio furniture movement of the mid-20th century. His one-of-a-kind pieces, often featuring carved relief surfaces, slate inlays, and gold leaf accents, are prized by collectors and regularly appear at major auction houses.
