Miyoko Ito (1918, 1983) was a Japanese-American painter known for her luminous, meditative abstract compositions that blend Eastern sensibility with Western modernism. Born in Berkeley, California, she spent part of her youth in Japan before returning to the United States, where she was unjustly interned during World War II. She spent most of her career in Chicago, developing a distinctive style of soft, otherworldly still lifes and landscapes that gained significant critical recognition in her later years.
