Martin Munkácsi (1896–1963) was a Hungarian-born photographer who revolutionized fashion and documentary photography with his dynamic, candid approach. He began his career as a sports and news photographer in Budapest and Berlin before emigrating to the United States in 1934, where he transformed fashion photography for Harper's Bazaar by taking models out of the studio and into natural, active settings. His pioneering use of motion, spontaneity, and naturalism profoundly influenced generations of photographers, including Henri Cartier-Bresson and Richard Avedon.
