Léonard Defrance was a Belgian painter born in Liège in 1735, known for his versatility across historical pieces, landscapes, game, fruit, flowers, and architecture. A student of J. B. Coclers, he became a prominent figure in the arts education of his region, serving as the first professor of design at the Academy of Liège under Prince Velbruck. He later held the same position at the École Centrale of the department of Ourthe until his death in 1805.
