Kent Monkman is a Canadian artist of Cree ancestry known for his provocative and multidisciplinary practice that spans painting, film, performance, and installation. His work critically reexamines the historical narratives of colonialism, Indigenous identity, and the representation of Indigenous peoples in Western art history, often subverting the conventions of European landscape painting and the American West. He is perhaps best known for his alter ego Miss Chief Eagle Testickle, a time-traveling supernatural being who disrupts and reclaims colonial histories.
