John Ferneley Snr. (1782, 1860) was a celebrated British sporting artist renowned for his masterful depictions of horses, hunting scenes, and equestrian portraits. A pupil of the great Ben Marshall, he spent much of his career based in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, the heart of English fox-hunting country, which brought him a prestigious clientele of aristocrats and sportsmen. His work is prized for its accuracy, elegance, and intimate understanding of equine anatomy and movement.
