Gerrit Dou (1613, 1675) was a Dutch Golden Age painter and the founder of the Fijnschilders ('fine painters') style, renowned for his exquisitely detailed small-scale cabinet paintings. A pupil of Rembrandt in Leiden, he became one of the most celebrated and highly paid artists of his era, known for candlelit scenes, domestic interiors, and trompe-l'œil niches. Works 'attributed to' Dou reflect pieces consistent with his style and workshop but lacking definitive documentation of his hand.
