Andrey Tarkovsky (1932, 1986) was a seminal Soviet filmmaker and visual artist widely regarded as one of the greatest directors in cinema history, known for films such as Andrei Rublev, Solaris, and The Sacrifice. His work is characterized by long, meditative takes, poetic imagery, and a deeply spiritual exploration of memory, time, and human existence. Beyond film, Tarkovsky was also an accomplished photographer and published his artistic philosophy in the book Sculpting in Time.
