Ambrosius Bosschaert the Elder was a pioneering Flemish painter celebrated for his exquisitely detailed floral still lifes, which helped establish the genre in the Dutch Golden Age. He founded a dynasty of painters, with his sons and brother-in-law Balthasar van der Ast continuing his legacy.
