Paul Bril was a Flemish painter born in Antwerp who became one of the most influential landscape artists of the late 16th and early 17th centuries. He spent the majority of his career in Rome, where he helped transform the genre of landscape painting by blending Flemish naturalism with Italian stylistic elements, contributing significantly to the development of the idealized classical landscape. His works, which include frescoes, cabinet paintings, and prints, were highly sought after by Roman patrons and had a lasting influence on later masters such as Claude Lorrain.
